The story is an allegory, relevant in my opinion to any child, about finding the courage and the strength to learn " to cross black mountains" (the barriers we feel limit or prevent us from our reaching goals) because " Black mountains are always around us ...we know there are around us when we feel afraid...afraid to do what we have to do " .
Knots on a Counting Rope tells the story of a native american boy, born sickly and blind, with a strong natural connection to horses. Through this bond and the close connection to his wise grandfather he learns to overcome the "darkness" and gets stronger.
