All have to pass town and ride the fairy to the island for a picnic before the pigs finish all the food.
The fairy doesn't leave until everyone gets there. When you get a spotting card, everyone joins the mission and everyone moves forward according to the number of the spotted items.So there is emphasis on "all of us together" .
I would suggest to be flexible with the timer: When playing with younger kids (3-4) or kids with a short attention span, give them more then a minute to find what they have to spot (so they will succeed and have a sense of accomplishment ) or If after a few times played , for some players it gets too easy to spot things, you can decide that half a minute is now the new challenge.)
